NNPP Will Soon Unveil Frontline Presidential Candidate to Adopt for 2027, Says Aniebonam
The Founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has announced that the party will soon unveil a frontline presidential candidate it intends to adopt for the 2027 elections.
Aniebonam explained in a statement on Tuesday, that prolonged litigation over the party’s leadership left little time to prepare a strong presidential contender in 2023. Although INEC eventually recognized Dr. Agbo Major as the NNPP National Chairman, the short window made it difficult to field a candidate capable of matching those from other major parties.
“We had a placeholder candidate while searching for an authentic presidential candidate with character and capacity for the 2027 election,” Aniebonam said.
He stressed that the NNPP is committed to its manifesto and will not repeat past mistakes, referencing the party’s experience with Rabiu Kwankwaso in 2023. According to him, the NNPP is not desperate to rule Nigeria at all costs, emphasizing that politics should not be a “do-or-die affair.”
Aniebonam revealed that the adoption process will involve consultations with party members, maritime practitioners, shippers, and other stakeholders in the transport and logistics sector. He assured Nigerians that the NNPP will only support a candidate it believes is best for the country.
While the party will not contest the presidency in 2027, Aniebonam confirmed that NNPP candidates will vie for other elective positions nationwide. He added that by 2031, the party intends to present its own presidential candidate to compete strongly against other political parties.
