Western Marine Customs Closes WASA Competition, Celebrates 380 Young Athletes
The Customs Area Controller, Western Marine Command, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, on Friday declared the five-day Wale Adeniyi Secondary Schools Competition closed at the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena (WASA), Lagos.
Organised in collaboration with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), the tournament brought together 380 students from 10 schools in a showcase of sporting excellence, discipline, and youthful energy.
Ntadi, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Florence Ntadi, praised the initiative as a deliberate investment in children’s holistic development — academics, sportsmanship, character, and community values. He commended Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi for building the arena and teachers, parents, and organisers for their dedication.
Topfield Secondary School emerged overall winner with 107 points, followed by Gaskiya College (43 points).
Every participant won at least one medal across the tournament categories. Events included Scrabble, Chess, Basketball, Table Tennis, and five-a-side Football.
Sandra Abutu (Pathfinders/Path Joe School) excelled in both Table Tennis and Football. Mose Chibuike (Topfield College) won boys’ Scrabble, while Ashiru Jamain (Topfield College) topped the girls’ category.
Raheem Abdulraheem (Topfield College) claimed victory in boys’ Chess, and Onuoha Jasmine (GIF College) won the girls’ Chess. Ajiboye Mubarak (Hope Springs School) won boys’ Table Tennis.
Dorcas Memorial College triumphed in boys’ Football, while Gaskiya College won the girls’ Football.
Local leaders, including Chief Kayode Hassan (Baale of Ebute-Ibafon), hailed the competition as “marvellous and one of its kind,” noting its role in engaging youths and proving that communities can host large-scale sporting events.
Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Adigun of Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Customs urged students to sustain their discipline and hard work, stressing that the virtues learned would prepare them for future success.
Comptroller Ntadi congratulated all participants and spectators, officially declaring the 2026 WASA competition closed, with hopes for an even bigger event in the coming years.
