Ogun FRSC, Customs Unite to Tackle Smuggling, Crashes, and Corruption on Border Roads
As part of efforts to bolster inter‑agency collaboration, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, led a high‑powered delegation on a familiarisation and courtesy visit to the Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, Idi‑Iroko, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, on April 20, 2026.
The visit formally introduced Corps Commander Ogunjobi following his assumption of office on April 11, 2026, and underscored the commitment of both agencies to strengthen cooperation in safeguarding national security and public safety.
During the interactive session, both leaders highlighted the complementary nature of their mandates and agreed on six key areas of collaboration which include:
Coordinated patrols and inspections to ensure vehicles on highways and border crossings are roadworthy and properly documented.
Information sharing on vehicle smuggling, traffic offences, and suspicious cross‑border movements.
Joint training programmes focusing on road safety standards and advanced vehicle examination techniques.
Collaborative public campaigns to educate motorists and border communities on customs compliance and the dangers of speeding and overloading
Rapid response mechanisms for traffic crashes and security breaches along the Lagos–Idi‑Iroko corridor.
Enhanced professionalism, with strict disciplinary measures against extortion and unprofessional conduct.
Corps Commander Ogunjobi reaffirmed the FRSC’s zero‑tolerance policy on extortion, assuring the Customs Command of a transparent, result‑oriented partnership.
In response, Comptroller Afeni expressed appreciation for the initiative, pledging his full support and maintaining an “open‑door” policy for collaboration. Both agencies agreed to establish a joint technical committee to immediately implement the identified strategies.
This renewed partnership is expected to deliver safer roads, more secure borders, and improved national revenue generation within Ogun State.
