MARAN Advances Plans for April 24 Event Honouring Ex-Leaders, Strengthening Media-Industry Ties
The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has announced remarkable progress in preparations for its forthcoming special reception in honour of its distinguished past presidents. The landmark event is designed to celebrate leadership, service, and the enduring contributions of media professionals to Nigeria’s maritime industry.

Following weeks of planning and stakeholder engagement, the association confirms that arrangements for the high-profile ceremony are at an advanced stage, with overwhelming support already recorded from key players across the maritime sector.

The reception will bring together industry heavyweights, ministry officials, policymakers, regulators, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and other critical stakeholders. Beyond honouring past leaders, it aims to reinforce the role of maritime journalism in shaping policy, promoting accountability, and driving sectoral growth.

Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tunde Ayodele, noted that the event will serve as a platform to reflect on the legacies of past presidents whose leadership positioned MARAN as a respected voice in the maritime space. He emphasized that the gathering will also strengthen collaboration between the media and industry operators at a time of significant reforms and modernization.

Planning Committee Chairman, Funso Olojo, disclosed that dignitaries from government institutions, including the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, as well as heads of key maritime agencies, have indicated strong interest in attending. Several corporate organizations have also pledged support, underscoring the initiative’s importance to the wider maritime community.

Olojo described the reception as a veritable platform to celebrate excellence, hard work, and quality leadership:

“MARAN, as the progenitor of beat associations in the maritime industry, has produced some of the finest individuals who sacrificed their time, energy, and intellect to make MARAN the greatest beat association. Today, they are excelling as ministers, lawyers, media moguls, employers of labour, and political appointees. This reception will unveil their excellence and celebrate their rising profiles.”

The event, scheduled for April 24, 2026 at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, will feature award presentations, goodwill messages, and networking sessions to foster deeper engagement among stakeholders while celebrating excellence in maritime journalism.

As momentum builds, MARAN calls on industry stakeholders, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to be part of this historic event through sponsorships, partnerships, and active participation.

MARAN remains the foremost maritime journalists’ beat association, committed to promoting ethical journalism, capacity building, and informed reporting within Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sector.
