Sarat Braimah Wins Prestigious Nelson Mandela Leadership Award
The Lagos Area Manager of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Engineer Sarat Braimah,
has been conferred with the prestigious Nelson Mandela Pan African Leadership Award by the Stay Africa Youth Development Initiative (SAYDI).
The Ghana-based organization, led by President Dominic Mensah, presented the award in Lagos, recognizing Braimah’s outstanding dedication to national service and transformative leadership.
Ambassador Mensah explained that Braimah was nominated by SAYDI’s Nigerian chapter for her remarkable achievements at NIWA Lagos, including youth empowerment initiatives, support for the Lagos State government, and her commitment to fairness, teamwork, and integrity. He emphasized that her career journey serves as an inspiration to young Africans, particularly women aspiring to leadership roles in the maritime sector.
“Our mission is to identify tomorrow’s leaders today by inspiring and mentoring young Africans to remain on the continent and contribute to its sustainable development. Leaders like you embody the values we seek to promote,” Mensah stated.
In addition to the award, Braimah received a certificate of excellence and was inducted into the Pan African Leadership Hall of Fame as an “amazon of nation building.”
Expressing gratitude, Braimah noted that the recognition would motivate her to further contribute to Nigeria and Africa’s maritime development. She dedicated the award to her superiors and colleagues, highlighting the importance of teamwork and selfless service.
“This honor inspires me to do more for my organization, Nigeria, and Africa. I hope many young people will remain focused and give their best to our continent,” she said.
