The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port Command, Apapa, recorded an unprecedented revenue collection of ₦1,609,874,328,972.55 in the 2025 fiscal year, surpassing its annual target and setting a new operational milestone for the Command.
The Area Comptroller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, disclosed the achievement during an award ceremony held on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at the Command’s headquarters in Lagos to honour officers whose dedication and professionalism drove the record-breaking performance.
According to Onyeka, the revenue figure exceeded the Command’s 2025 target of ₦1,524,669,999,478.52 by ₦85,204,329,494.03, underscoring improved efficiency and compliance at the port.
Describing the feat as a product of collective effort rather than individual brilliance, the Comptroller said the success reflected enhanced transparency, teamwork, and operational discipline within the Command.
“A tree can never make a forest. I could not have done it alone, too much has been given to us, and much is expected. Officers deserve appreciation for their tireless efforts,” he said.
He explained that the awards ceremony symbolised a renewed culture within the Service that prioritises recognition of diligence, professionalism, and shared responsibility among officers.
Onyeka attributed part of the success to operational reforms introduced to strengthen trade facilitation and internal efficiency, particularly the B’Odogwu clearance system and the Time Release Study (TRS). He noted that the TRS was designed to eliminate unnecessary delays in port procedures and processes.
The Comptroller further revealed that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, recently launched the official Time Release Study assessment report at the just concluded ICD 2026, with the performance of Tincan Island Port Command emerging as a key highlight of the report.
According to him, the achievement has further strengthened the Command’s resolve to accelerate legitimate trade while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.
The Area Controller also expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General, stakeholders, partners, and officers for sustaining confidence in the Command despite prevailing economic and operational challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, the Deputy Comptroller (Administration), Essien Esiet, described the recognition as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility, reaffirming the officers’ commitment to sustaining high performance and professionalism at the nation’s busiest ports.
