The Omi Eko Project, a €410 million flagship initiative aimed at transforming water transportation across Lagos State, has appointed Dr. Segun Alabi as its new Head of Communications and Media, as the project intensifies efforts to reshape urban mobility through the state’s waterways.
The appointment was announced by the Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Governor of Lagos State and Project Coordinator, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who expressed confidence in Dr. Alabi’s capacity to strengthen public engagement and strategic communication for the project.
According to Mr. Emmanuel, Dr. Alabi’s extensive background in communications, media relations, and public affairs positions him to effectively articulate the project’s vision and sustainability goals.
“Dr. Alabi is a highly accomplished Corporate Affairs professional with diverse experience spanning Pay TV, financial services, real estate, business membership organisations, and the manufacturing sector,” Emmanuel said.
In his new role, Dr. Alabi will lead the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies, oversee media relations, and drive public awareness of the Omi Eko Project as a sustainable alternative to Lagos’ congested road transport system.
Before his appointment, Dr. Alabi served as Assistant Director, Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), where he was responsible for corporate communications, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, and event management. His professional expertise covers reputation management, government relations, corporate social responsibility, public policy advocacy, and digital media strategy.
He is widely regarded within corporate and public policy circles as a seasoned communications professional known for managing information strategically to advance institutional objectives.
Reacting to his appointment, Dr. Alabi described the role as both challenging and fulfilling.
“I am excited to join the Omi Eko Project team. This opportunity is truly a dream come true. While the task ahead is enormous, it is certainly achievable,” he said.
Dr. Alabi holds a PhD in English from the University of Lagos, with a specialisation in Language Use and Communication.
