The President of the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA), Otunba Sola Adewunmi, has urged indigenous shipowners to embrace the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) with integrity, professionalism and a long-term outlook, describing the initiative as a critical opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime capacity.

Adewunmi made the call on Thursday in Lagos during his goodwill message at the commissioning of the CVFF Application Portal by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

He commended the Federal Government for operationalising the long-awaited fund and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the political will to move the CVFF from policy to implementation.

He also applauded the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola, for driving reforms aimed at repositioning the maritime sector as a key contributor to national economic growth.

The NISA president assured NIMASA of the association’s full support and cooperation, noting that indigenous shipowners were ready to partner with regulators and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the fund.

According to him, NISA is committed to the responsible utilisation of the CVFF and to working collectively to achieve the objectives of the Cabotage Act, which seeks to promote indigenous participation in Nigeria’s coastal and inland shipping trade.

“I am honoured to participate in this important occasion—the official commissioning of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) Portal by NIMASA.”

“On behalf of the Nigerian Shipowners Association, I commend the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his bold leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda.” He added

“I also warmly applaud the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, for his clear vision and commitment to repositioning the maritime sector as a pillar of national economic growth.”
