The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ), the umbrella body of maritime journalists in Nigeria, has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, on the occasion of his birthday, commending his leadership and reform-driven tenure.
In a statement issued on Monday, 19 January 2026, and signed by its Chairman, Elder Dele Aderibigbe, the Network described Adeniyi’s birthday as a milestone worthy of celebration, noting that his stewardship has provided much-needed direction for the Customs Service at a critical period.
According to Aderibigbe, the Comptroller-General “deserves all the accolades as he stood up to be counted when the NCS needed direction,” adding that Adeniyi has successfully repositioned the Service from a turbulent phase to an enviable standing within the World Customs Organisation (WCO), thereby boosting Nigeria’s international image as Chairman.
The NNMJ Chairman further described the Customs boss as a workaholic whose far-reaching reforms have transformed the Service, with particular reference to B’Odogwu, an indigenous intervention credited with enhancing efficiency and significantly increasing revenue generation for the Federal Government.
Highlighting the national impact of Adeniyi’s leadership, the statement quoted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as saying that “CGC Adeniyi’s leadership has also contributed to improved community relations, consistent surpassing of revenue targets, stronger trade partnerships with countries and multilateral institutions, and enhanced security across Nigeria’s borders, noting that ‘these achievements underscore the value of reform-oriented leadership in strengthening national economic resilience and safeguarding our borders.’”
The Network offered prayers for the Comptroller-General, asking that the Almighty grant him strength and wisdom to continue to pilot the affairs of the Nigeria Customs Service in the interest of national development.
