Ikorodu Sets Sights on Lagos Governor's Seat: A Call for Indigenous Representation in 2027
In a bold move, the Ikorodu Governance Initiative has launched the Ikorodu Lokan Agenda 2027, a campaign seeking to position an Ikorodu indigene as the next governor of Lagos State.
This push is driven by the fact that Ikorodu, one of Lagos State's five divisions under the IBILE arrangement, remains the only division alongside Badagry without an indigenous governor.
The group's convener, Prince Adewale Samson, emphasized that it's time for Ikorodu to take the helm, citing the division's significant contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last three election cycles. "We urge our leader, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Governors Advisory Council (GAC), religious and traditional leaders, and other influencers to support our quest for an Ikorodu indigene as the next Lagos State governor in 2027," the statement read.
The initiative is gaining momentum, with plans to engage prominent Ikorodu indigenes and residents, culminating in a World Press Conference to amplify their message.
The group believes that Ikorodu has capable sons and daughters who can lead Lagos State and that it's only fair they get the next governorship candidacy.
"We believe it's time for Ikorodu to take the helm, and we'll continue advocating for this cause. As the saying goes, 'If we struggle, we can win; if we don't, we've lost abinitio,'" the statement added.
The group's co-convener, Comrade Shola Omolola, and other officials are leading the charge, emphasizing that this is a legitimate and valid demand.
The Ikorodu Governance Initiative's move is part of a broader trend in Lagos politics, where different divisions are advocating for their own representation.
The group's efforts are expected to shake up the state's political landscape as the 2027 elections approach.
The initiative's leaders are optimistic about their chances, citing the division's population, economic potential, and the capabilities of its people. "An injury to one is an injury to all.
Aluta Continua.....Victoria Ascerta!" the statement concluded.
