LASWA Empowers Badagry Pupils with Lifesaving Water Safety Skills in 5th ‘Water Savvy Kids’ Edition

In a determined effort to build a generation of confident and safety-conscious waterway users, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has launched the fifth edition of its Lagos Water Savvy Kids Program — a week-long water safety and swimming training for school children in Badagry Local Government Area.

The initiative, which kicked off on Monday, October 20, 2025, is part of LASWA’s continuous advocacy campaign aimed at promoting water safety, reducing fear of water, and fostering a culture of confidence among young Lagosians who live and commute along the state’s inland waterways.
Organised in partnership with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Dolphin Swim School (DSS), a leading aquatic training institution dedicated to empowering women and children with essential swimming skills, the program blends classroom-based learning with hands-on practical sessions.

According to LASWA, the training is designed to equip pupils with both theoretical and practical knowledge in swimming, water safety, and basic emergency survival techniques.
A total of 50 pupils drawn from five public schools in Badagry were selected to participate in this year’s edition. The participating schools were chosen from communities where water transport remains a part of everyday life.
The agency noted that as Lagos continues to expand its water transport network, it is vital that young commuters understand the waterways environment and possess the skills to respond effectively to emergencies.

Through this initiative, LASWA is nurturing “a safer, more confident generation of waterway users who are safety-conscious, self-reliant, and well-prepared for any challenges they may encounter on the water.”

The one-week training will run until Friday, October 24, 2025.
