NIWA Board Chairman Thanks President Tinubu for Appointment "

Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar has extended heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for appointing him and other distinguished individuals to the newly reconstituted Board of Directors of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

In his inaugural address, Hon. Adar remarked:

 “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of this esteemed organization. I am honored to serve alongside my fellow board members, and deeply grateful to President Tinubu for finding us worthy of this responsibility. I also wish to thank the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, for his recommendation and support.”

He paid tribute to the visionary leadership of past Boards and Management Teams, acknowledging their contributions to infrastructure development and staff welfare. He noted that some of these trailblazers have passed on, leaving behind legacies that continue to shape NIWA’s relevance in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Hon. Adar pledged to lead with integrity and collaboration:

“As Chairman, I will respect the counsel of my colleagues and work hand-in-hand with stakeholders to build an organization that surpasses today’s standards. I am fully committed to deploying my time and resources toward realizing NIWA’s vision of becoming a world-class, professionally managed institution—responsive to the needs of Nigerians and respected globally.”


Managing Director/CEO Mr. Bola Oyebamiji FCIB welcomed the new Board members, expressing optimism about the Authority’s future. He highlighted recent achievements, including:

- Increased movement of goods and passengers via inland waterways  
- Gazetting of the Water Transportation Code to enhance safety  
- Deployment of Water Marshals across loading and offloading points  
- Safety sensitization campaigns in over 12 states  
- Distribution of nearly 6,000 lifejackets  
- Strengthened partnerships with state governments including Bayelsa, Niger, Kwara, Sokoto, and Lagos
