CALSSAN Visits MWUN Leadership to Foster Stronger Union Ties
On Tuesday, August 19th, 2025, the leadership of the Courier Staff Association of Nigeria (CALSSAN)—an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)—paid a courtesy visit to the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) at its national secretariat in Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.
The CALSSAN delegation, led by Comrade Emeka Cyril Ekeh (Deputy President), alongside Comrade Akor Jonah (State Vice Chairman) and Comrade Inih Ekwere (State Secretary), was warmly received by MWUN’s newly elected President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, and his national executive team.
The visit was aimed at:
- Congratulating Comrade Bunu on his recent electoral victory.
- Exploring avenues for strategic collaboration between CALSSAN and MWUN.
- Strengthening solidarity between both unions, recognizing shared interests in advancing workers’ welfare.
In his remarks, Comrade Bunu expressed deep appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed MWUN’s commitment to:
- Supporting CALSSAN’s operations within the labour sector.
- Promoting unity and comradeship as essential tools for progress.
- Maintaining an open-door policy for mutual engagement and growth.
He emphasized that a healthy workforce is the backbone of any thriving organization, and reiterated his administration’s dedication to prioritizing workers’ welfare across all sectors.
The Izon-born veteran sailor and seasoned administrator assured CALSSAN of MWUN’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives that benefit Nigerian workers. He thanked the CALSSAN executives for their solidarity and pledged continued support for joint efforts that uplift the labour movement.
