Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has reaffirmed its commitment to educational and community development with the commissioning of the second phase of its school renovation project in Rivers State.
The latest phase saw significant infrastructure upgrades at Model Boys Secondary School, Omoku, and Community Secondary School, Amadi-Ama in Port Harcourt.
The initiative aligns with NLNG’s four-pillar Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda—sustainability, stakeholding, partnership, and shared prosperity and was delivered in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Education. The partnership is aimed at promoting quality education in the company’s host communities.
The newly commissioned upgrades include the construction of fully equipped male and female toilets, Youth Corps lodges, full renovation and re-equipping of science laboratories, refurbishment of five classrooms (two for junior and three for senior students), renovation of four administrative blocks, and the construction of a new administrative building for teachers and school staff.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, NLNG Managing Director Philip Mshelbila, represented by Yemi Adeyemi, Manager, Community Relations & Sustainable Development, described the project as a major step toward fulfilling the company’s promise to its host communities.
“Ensuring the education of our young ones may very well be the biggest insurance for the future. We acknowledge this, and it has been the driving force behind both our past and current interventions. Quality education remains the foundation of sustainable national development. This commissioning is evidence to our commitment to human capital development and long-term community impact,” he said.
“As we invest in educational infrastructure like this, we are not only improving learning environments but also planting the seeds for future leaders, innovators, and professionals. We are proud to contribute meaningfully to the transformation of education in our communities and beyond,” he added.
Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, the Director of Secondary Education, Alua Adiela, expressed gratitude to NLNG for its consistent support of education in the state.
“The infrastructure upgrades and enhancements are truly commendable. However, what resonates even more deeply is the spirit behind this intervention. It reflects a profound sense of responsibility and a long-term vision, one that champions learning, uplifts educators, and acknowledges that a strong education system is fundamental to national development. NLNG could have confined itself to its core business operations, but instead, it chose to lead with empathy and foresight. This is the kind of corporate leadership our nation so urgently needs,” she stated.
The second phase follows the successful completion of the first phase, which featured similar enhancements in schools located on Bonny Island and in Port Harcourt.
Over the years, NLNG has driven educational advancement through scholarships, institutional support, and technical training, not only in Rivers State but across Nigeria. The school renovation project is a continuation of this legacy, turning corporate responsibility into lasting benefits for students, teachers, and future generations.
