No ship fire at ENL terminal – MD
ENL Consortium, operator of a major cargo terminal at the Lagos Port Complex in Apapa, has refuted claims of a cargo ship being engulfed in fire at its facility on Saturday.
According to Mr Mark Walsh, Managing Director of ENL Consortium, what occurred was an emission of smoke from one of the ship’s hatches, not a fire.
He clarified in a statement on Sunday that the situation was swiftly identified and contained without escalation.
“There was absolutely no naked fire on the ship,” Walsh stated.
He explained that their emergency response team immediately traced the smoke and brought the situation under control in line with established safety protocols.
Walsh emphasised that no lives were at risk, and there was no damage to cargo, equipment, or the terminal’s infrastructure.
He highlighted ENL Consortium’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and emergency preparedness, noting that the quick and professional handling of the incident underscored the company’s safety culture and rapid response systems.
Expressing concern over inaccurate reports, Walsh urged the public and media to seek verified information and avoid sensationalising incidents that had been properly managed.
He said, “Port operations at ENL Terminal remain safe, stable, and fully operational.
He reiterated the consortium’s dedication to protecting both personnel and cargo through strict adherence to global safety standards.
