It was a day of pride and celebration at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Area Command as the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, commissioned three key infrastructure projects; A newly renovated Senior Officers Mess, a state-of-the-art Gym House, and a modern Office Complex for the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA).
The commissioning ceremony, held on Monday, drew high ranking officers, members of COWA, sister security agencies, and community leaders, all gathered to witness what has been described as a milestone achievement for the Seme Command.
In his welcome address, Comptroller Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the Command's CAC, expressed deep appreciation to the CGC for personally attending the ceremony. He described the CGC’s presence as “a testament to his unwavering commitment to the welfare of our officers and the progress of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
According to Dr. Oramalugo, the new facilities go beyond bricks and mortar; they reflect the NCS's broader vision of fostering a supportive work environment that prioritizes officer welfare, community development, and institutional excellence.
“This is more than just a commissioning; it’s a celebration of teamwork, dedication, and the shared vision of building a more humane and efficient Customs Service,” the Comptroller stated.
The renovated Officers’ Mess is designed to serve as a hub for relaxation and professional bonding, while the gym facility provides a space for health and wellness, both key elements in boosting morale and productivity. The COWA Office Complex, meanwhile, recognizes the significant role played by Customs officers’ spouses in supporting the Service and their communities.
Dr. Oramalugo also took time to highlight the Command’s operational achievements, noting that between January and April 2025, the Seme Command generated over N2.83 billion in revenue.
The Command also processed over 184,000 metric tonnes of export goods valued at more than N36 billion, and recorded seizures and arrests worth over N800 million in duty paid value a demonstration, he said, of their zero-tolerance approach to smuggling.
The COWA leadership was commended for their tireless work in community empowerment and support for officers' families, with the new office expected to further enhance their reach and effectiveness.
“To the members of COWA, your tireless efforts have brought this dream to life. This new facility will serve as a hub for innovation and positive impact in our border community,” he added.
The Comptroller also lauded the synergy with other security agencies in the region, emphasizing that collaboration remains crucial in securing Nigeria’s borders and promoting peace.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Oramalugo charged officers to utilize the new facilities as tools to enhance service delivery and maintain the core values of the Nigeria Customs Service’s integrity, professionalism, and discipline.
The event ended with a tour of the new facilities, as guests expressed optimism that the investments would further strengthen the operational efficiency and community relations of the Seme Area Command.
