MWUN Sets Ground Rules for Branches Elections, Warns Contestants and Members Against Unruly Behavior


The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has issued a stern warning to contestants and members participating in the forthcoming branches elections, reminding them to adhere to the union's rules and regulations. In a press release signed by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, the union emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, decorum, and discipline within the union.

According to the press release, contestants and members are restricted from engaging in campaign activities at specific locations, including Quay Apron, Port Terminals, Jetties, Oil & Gas platforms, On-Board Vessels, and Union Offices nationwide. The union also warned against placing fliers, banners, stickers, and engaging in campaigns of calumny or displaying images of any sort at these locations.

MWUN leadership, under Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, emphasized that while the union recognizes the right of every member to participate or contest the union's elective positions, it is imperative that contestants and members abide by the rules of the union. The union will not hesitate to deal decisively or sanction any contestant or member who flouts this standing order, as it will not compromise its peaceful status over whatsoever reason in the guise of elective positions campaign.

In a related development, four dockworkers vying for the position of Dockworkers Branch President have been summoned by Comrade Francis Bunu for a breakfast meeting. The meeting aims to remind contestants of the importance of adhering to the union's rules and maintaining peace during the elections.

The MWUN's efforts to regulate the electioneering process are a welcome development, as they will help to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.
