FirstBank Group Breaks Ground on Iconic 43-Storey Eco-Friendly Headquarters in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has presented a Certificate of Approval to FirstBank Group for the construction of its iconic 43-storey eco-friendly headquarters in Eko Atlantic City. This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter in FirstBank's history, solidifying its role as a leader in the African financial industry.
The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by prominent dignitaries including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governors Dapo Abiodun and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and business magnates like Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Femi Otedola, signifies the start of an exciting new journey for FirstBank.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended FirstBank Group for its leadership and vision, praising the financial institution's courage and audacity to build a 43-storey skyscraper, set to become Nigeria's tallest building. He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu's bold step in transforming the Atlantic Ocean's Bar Beach into Eko Atlantic City during his tenure as Governor.
The Governor emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment for investors to bring their investments into Eko Atlantic City, urging other financial institutions to follow FirstBank's lead. He noted that the First Bank headquarters is the investment that will change the future of the city, and less than 24 hours after laying the foundation for Lagos Financial International Centre, Mr. Femi Otedola has brought them to Eko Atlantic City to begin the realization of a Lagos International Financial Centre.
"We want Lagos to be the centrepiece of finance and commerce out of Africa. We want Lagos to be the model mega city that is safe, secure, and willing to take the mantle of leadership also in the financial sector," Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
The new FirstBank headquarters is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a green-certified building that reduces operational costs and positions the bank as a leader in sustainable banking practices. With its completion, the building will be Nigeria's tallest commercial office building, fitting into the plan and design of Eko Atlantic City as a home for skyscrapers and extraordinary real estate.
The FirstBank Group's investment in Eko Atlantic City is a testament to the company's commitment to Nigeria's economic growth and development. The project is expected to create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and contribute to the country's GDP.
As the construction of the new headquarters begins, FirstBank Group is poised to take its place as a leader in the African financial industry, while also contributing to the growth and development of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
