Lagos State Boosts Fire Safety with Two New Stations
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned two new fire stations in Ijede, Abule Eko Ikorodu, and Ijegun Egba, Oriade LCDA, to enhance the state's fire safety and protection services .
This development aligns with the state's vision of becoming a 21st-century economy and ensures continued protection and service delivery to the people.
The new stations are equipped with cutting-edge equipment and staffed with trained personnel to tackle domestic fires, industrial accidents, and emergencies. The governor emphasized the importance of these stations in providing convenient and swift emergency responses, driven by the state's rapid population growth .
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to see these stations as community assets, a lifeline in times of crisis, and an assurance of the government's commitment to serve and protect. He also announced that two more fire stations in Oworoshoki and Yaba are nearing completion, while the reconstruction of Ikotun Station will soon be ready for commissioning.
Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Olugbenga Oyerinde, stressed the importance of balancing the state's capacity with its growth and demand for efficient service delivery. He commended the firefighters as among Nigeria's best-trained responders and emphasized the need for continuous training to keep pace with innovations .
Oyerinde also encouraged property owners, communities, and residents to work together in maintaining the facility, support firefighters, and ensure their homes are equipped with fire safety measures.
