Recently, the Maritime Centre of Excellence, (MCOE) was accredited by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency, UK MCA for the STCW 2010 Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) and Basic Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations courses.

Abdulkadir Ahmed, Managing Director/CEO of NSML, stated that the newly approved MCOE is equipped with state-of-the-art space that meets the strictest equipment specifications during an interview with reporters in Lagos.

“With its state-of-the-art facilities and accredited courses, the center is poised to play a significant role in the development of the industry.”

The certification, he pointed out, is evidence of the company's continuous efforts to implement the changes required for the growth of the nation's maritime and oil & gas industries.

He stressed the importance of the MCOE offering vital training programmes for the professional development of the company's employees.

Ahmed encouraged stakeholders in the oil and gas and maritime industries to utilise the newly approved training centre as part of their efforts to promote professionalism and enhance capacity.

He noted that seafarers can benefit from courses necessary for their particular career advancement. He continued by inviting business owners and anyone involved in private investment who are in need of the training needed to function in the maritime industry to make good use of the facility.

“Its accreditation by the UK MCA is a testament to its commitment to excellence, and its openness to businesses and private persons makes it an invaluable resource for the industry,”

Along with highlighting the importance of finances, standards, and experience in advancing industry expansion, the MD/CEO emphasised the company's objective to support the growth of Nigeria's maritime sector.

Ahmed said that achieving operational excellence, safety, and sustainable growth in the maritime industry would require a comprehensive plan that goes beyond money.

He restated that the MCOE is evidence of NSML's dedication to quality and its goal of fostering the expansion of the maritime sector in Nigeria.
