Ports & Cargo Boss Decries Delay in Concession Renewal, Urges Government Action
Mr. John Jenkins, Managing Director of Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited, a subsidiary of SIFAX Group, has expressed concerns over the prolonged delay in renewing the company's port concession, which expired a few years ago.
Despite meeting all necessary terms, the renewal process has been stalled since 2021, causing operational instability, customer uncertainty, and hindering new business opportunities.
During a courtesy visit by Bashir Ambi Mohammed, Head of Complaints Unit, Nigerian Shippers' Council, Jenkins emphasized the impact on Ports & Cargo, a leading terminal operator, citing exceptional service delivery, trade facilitation, job creation, and social responsibility initiatives.
Mohammed acknowledged the terminal's contributions and committed to expediting the approval process, ensuring prompt and fair complaint resolution, and effective regulation through collaboration with service providers.
The Nigerian Shippers' Council has pledged to use its influence to facilitate the concession renewal, supporting the growth and development of the shipping sector.
