PTML Sets Precedent with Payment of Retirement Benefits to 84 Aged Dockworkers and Deceased Next of Kin
In a landmark move, the management of Ports & Terminal Multi Services Limited (PTML) at TinCan Island Port, Apapa, has paid the retirement benefits of 74 aged dockworkers and the next of kin of 10 deceased dockworkers, totaling 84 beneficiaries.

This historic payment exercise was supervised by Comrade Bello Abubakir, Vice President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), representing the President-General, Comrade Ibrahim Ohize, President of the Dockworkers Branch of MWUN, and other union officials.

According to Prince Adeyanju, a prominent maritime labor leader, this is the first time since the inception of the terminal that PTML has applied the minimum salary standard (NJIC) to the fullest, exceeding the recommendations in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for dockworkers' retirees.

He praised PTML's management for their bold step and urged other terminals to follow suit.

Dr. Adeyanju commended PTML's management for putting smiles on the faces of both the aged retirees and the families of the deceased dockworkers who received their entitlements.

He noted that this gesture demonstrates the company's commitment to the welfare of its workers, even after their service.

The payment exercise is a significant milestone in the maritime industry, showcasing PTML's dedication to its workers and setting a precedent for other terminals to follow.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has applauded PTML's management for their laudable action, which has brought joy to the aged retirees and the families of the deceased dockworkers.
