Five heads of state witness unveiling of Dangote refinery
Four other heads of state and a representative of a President joined President Muhammadu  Buhari has he officially unveiled the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The state-of-the-art refinery is expected to not only make the country self-sufficient in refined products but also position it as a potential exporter of surplus products.

The four distinguished Heads of State who graced the commissioning ceremony are from Ghana, Togo, Niger, Senegal, and a representative of the President of Chad. 

Addressing the gathering, President Buhari hailed the achievement as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s economy while recognizing its transformative impact on the downstream petroleum products market throughout the African region.


The President commended the Dangote Group, led by its visionary founder, Dr. Aliko Dangote for their remarkable investments that have played a pivotal role in revitalizing Nigeria’s economy.

Also speaking at ceremony,  the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele revealed that the  refinery will save Nigeria $25b and $30b forex annually and give the economy an inflow of $10b yearly.

He also projected that the refinery would generate 12,000 megawatts of electricity and over 135,000 permanent jobs.

According to him, “we insisted that under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, the ongoing projects and efforts will be actively implemented to diversify the economy and make the country globally competitive but people still doubted us,” he said.
