Prank Call: Lagos State to take Legal Action against Phony Fire Officer

Uzuokwu Solomon, age 18, is about to be charged by the Lagos State Government with crimes related to making hoax calls for emergency responders, which are punishable under the 2013 Command and Control Center Law and the Lagos State Fire Service Law.

The offender is accused of calling the fire department's emergency line on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 17:35 and reporting a fire emergency inside the estate in Harmony Estate, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos. This allegedly resulted in the emergency procedures being activated and the dispatch of the fire trucks from Lekki Phase II Fire Service Station. When they arrived, they found the estate to be free of any recent fire incidents.

The Estate security assisted in the investigation that resulted in the arrest of the infamous bogus caller because of the frequency of such calls in the past.

As a result, the offender who had been detained is due to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction at Ogba Magistrate on April 19, 2023, at 9:00 am.

While interacting with journalists, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, expressed her joy at the culprit's arrest while emphasizing the state government's position on malicious fake calls, which are illegal in Lagos State and subject to punishment. She is confident that the arrest and subsequent arraignment will act as a deterrent for other misled persons who have a habit of placing phony calls.
