Apapa Customs Command, Comptroller Olomu Receive Three Awards for Excellence in Revenue Generation, Leadership, Controller of the Year

The Apapa Customs Command and its Area Controller, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, were recognized with three prestigious awards during the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Award Night held on November 29, 2024, in Abuja. The accolades included the Award for Revenue Collection, an Award of Excellence, and the coveted title of Best Controller of the Year.
Comptroller Olomu was celebrated for his exceptional leadership and transformative efforts at Nigeria's premier port in Apapa. Under his tenure, the command achieved remarkable milestones, including generating an unprecedented N2 trillion in revenue for the government as of November 20, 2024. This milestone was accomplished despite low trade volumes, highlighting the command’s efficiency in preventing revenue leakages and ensuring maximum collection.
According to CSC Abubakar Usman, the Customs Public Relations Officer for the Apapa Command, these awards were presented by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. They recognized the command's outstanding performance in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and trade facilitation.
Comptroller Olomu attributed the achievements to teamwork, dedication, and the cooperation of his officers. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards through regular evaluation and strict adherence to duty protocols. Olomu also expressed gratitude to his team and stakeholders for their support, urging continued collaboration as the year draws to a close.
According to the statement, for the first time in its history, the Apapa Customs Command generated N2 trillion in revenue into the government's coffers as of November 20, 2024.
Under Comptroller Babatunde Olomu’s leadership, the command set a new standard by preventing revenue losses and ensuring optimal collection, even amidst low trade volumes.
Through consistent daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity evaluations, the command emphasized punctuality among officers, timely processing of entries, thorough inspections, and uncompromising integrity in their duties.
Comptroller Olomu dedicated the recognition to the officers and personnel of the command, attributing the success to teamwork, commitment, focus, and cooperation. He acknowledged the importance of a strong team, emphasizing that no leader can succeed without supportive colleagues, and urged continued collaboration from all stakeholders as the year 2024 draws to a close.
